2007 Annual Dinner

A very pleasant evening was enjoyed by over forty members who came along to the Barley Mow at West Horsley for the Surrey Regions annual dinner. A popular destination, this is the second time that the Surrey JEC have held our annual dinner there, as well as being the location of choice now that we have started holding an additional monthly meeting there lunchtimes on the 1st Sunday of the month, in addition to our usual 3rd Thursday of the month meeting at Brooklands.

Set in the historic barn behind the pub, this atmospheric venue provided us with a spacious dining area, private bar and good food. The three course meal provided something for all tastes. The menu included soup, deep fried camembert or melon for the starters, salmon, loin of pork or chicken for the main course, and for dessert cheesecake, fruit salad or crème brulee, with coffee and petit fours to finish off the meal.

The tables had been laid out with some lovely flower arrangements that committee members’ wives had made, and at the end of the meal all the ladies present were invited to take the flowers home.

The ticket price included a raffle with a selection of prizes including bottles of Champagne and wine, and framed pictures of Jaguars. The first ticket out of the bag belonged to one of the guests sitting at the same table (it wasn’t a fix honest!).

It was with regret that numbers at the dinner were slightly less than intended, as our chairman had earlier been taken to hospital. Naturally his wife and guests had felt it inappropriate to attend, and so a “Get Well” card was circulated for members to sign.

This is proving to be a popular venue for our annual dinner, and so for 2008 we are hoping to be near the full capacity of 60 guests.
