One of the greatest post-war sports cars, Jaguar’s E-Type made immediate headlines on its launch in March 1961. Here was a sleek and beautiful 150mph car with a competition pedigree that could be bought for just over £2,000 almost half the cost of an Aston Martin or Ferrari.

A direct descendant of the XK120 and competition C and D-Type models that so dominated fifties sports car racing, the E-Type shared its 265bhp 3.8 litre twin-cam straight-six engine with the XK150 ‘S’, mated to a Moss four-speed gearbox with synchromesh on the top three ratios. Beneath the William Lyons/Malcolm Sayer-styled body, available in either closed or roadster form, the steel monocoque chassis sported all-independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, mounted inboard at the back. It was these mechanical market-leading advantages that gave those early E-Types a jump on the competition.

The example presented here today is a highly competitive car with modifications that are focused towards just one thing. Performance. Starting from the ground up, we have Dunlop style ‘knock-off’ alloy road wheels shod with Dunlop racing tyres (600-15M). The motive force comes from a race prepped engine, 3.8 litres, to FIA Specification. Large valves and a specially modified cylinder head with 10mm Spark plugs coupled with triple Weber carburettors and a 6 branch FIA specification exhaust manifold with side exit exhaust system.

Transmitted power goes through a fully synchro Moss gearbox and Salisbury Power Lock differential. Equally important are the brakes, these have been modified to accept Aeroquip piping throughout and remote large capacity brake reservoirs.

As always, safety is paramount and to this end, a foam filled ATL 80 litre alloy cased petrol tank (New) has been installed with racing fuel pump, 6 point custom made roll cage, leather bucket race seats with 6 point harness by Sabelt (New). In the event of fire, there is a SPA 4kg plumed in fire extinguisher system (Refilled + new) with 2.25kg handheld fire extinguisher (New Spa unit). In all, over Ã£5,000 worth of FIA equipment alone has been added in recent months bringing this great looking Jaguar its impressive credentials.

It has also had a comprehensive history during the 1980’s and 90’s at all major events with the UK and Europe. Featuring significant races at the Nurburgring, The Coys Festival at Silverstone and Spa as well as numerous other club events culminating in podium finishes and class wins as. With a recently freshened engine, new brakes and a cosmetic renovation, it is now eligible for almost all major GT events in Europe including the Gentleman Drivers GT series and general FIA GT or modified production series generally in the UK and abroad.

This battle hardened sportscar has been piloted by just one man, an experienced racer in many disciplines, for the last 20 odd years. Consistency and continued attention makes for good racing cars. This is a good racing car.
