THE CHEAPER JAGUAR FOR YOUNGER
DRIVERS
Reviewed: Tuesday, Jun 17th 2008
The good looking X Type based on a humble Ford Mondeo Mk2 was launched to a surprised motoring world back in 1999. Jaguar wanted to steal sales from the
BMW 3-Series and had nothing in the range of a similar size. So Ford raided it’s parts bins and designed a new body on the Mondeo underframe and floorpan.
This was also the cheapest option as it saved millions of pounds and time to develop. The X-Type taking a classic designation from the 1950’s fits the bill
and looks good. Despite it being aimed at the younger executive it does still look quite old fashioned. Over the past years it hasn’t sold all that well
and Ford are looking at replacing it soon. Miasto have done a brilliant model here with all the doors opening to a high level of detail. It even has sprung
suspension and feels very heavy and looks better than the real thing !.
