Synopsis

The re-issue of this second volume of the history of Jaguar in motorsport, first published in 1987 and generally considered to be the definitive work on the subject, gives Jaguar enthusiasts the chance to obtain what has become a much sought-after collectors’ item. This work was originally intended to be a single volume but the award-winning author’s research unearthed such a wealth of new discoveries and previously unpublished photographs that it was decided to produce two. These will be available individually or as a slip-cased set.

5 Stars Splendid sequel

Reviewed: Saturday, Aug 30th 2003

Just as stunning as Volume 1 - Whyte sadly died before Jaguar’s 1980s/90s sports car programme came to full fruition so we’re left with a history that ends before some of their greatest triumphs. What we get here is the story of the D-type, E-type, XJ12 and XJS in racing, and the first few years of the Cat’s return to top-class sports car racing with the Tullius and Walkinshaw XJRs. As with volume 1, the depth and breadth of research is incredible. Any fan of the marque or keen historian of racing will find this unmissable.
